You’ve looked already, probably.
The plaques. The candles. The frames with the verse already in them. Each one lovely enough, and each one would fit anybody, which is the problem, as the person you’re missing wasn’t just anybody.
They were the nickname only your family used. The thing they said at every do. The way they answered the phone. They were so much more than a name and two dates, and the things you’re most afraid of forgetting are exactly the things that never fit on an engraving.
And if anything is going to hold those things, you already know who’ll end up organising it. You did the flowers. You did the speech. You’re always the one.
This time, the gathering is done for you.
Remembered By is a hand-lettered keepsake of who they were, built from the words of everyone who loved them. You share one link with your family. Each person adds their words and memories in their own time: the sayings, the places, the daft private things that meant the most. The collecting, the gentle reminding and the shaping are all done for you.
Every word is then curated with a psychologist’s eye and hand-lettered into a shape your family chooses: a heart, a star, an initial, a silhouette, or something that was unmistakably theirs, as some people are a teapot or a football boot to their family, and that’s exactly as it should be.
Your family approves every word before anything is final. Not a goodbye. A keeping.
It hangs on the wall, or stands at the wake, and they never fade.
It began at a wake.
The first piece was made for one family: a much-loved mum, granny and wife, remembered in the words her family couldn’t stop saying about her, hand-lettered into one heart. It stood beside her photographs at the wake, and it hangs in their home now, holding the quickstep, the caravanning, the nickname, all of it.
Every piece is drawn by hand by one person: Sarah Jane Bailey, author, artist, and holder of a Master’s in Mental Health Psychology, which is why every word is chosen on purpose, sized on purpose, and placed on purpose. The big words carry who they were. The small ones are where your family’s tears live.
How it works
How it works
1. Begin the gathering. Tell us about them in a short written questionnaire, at whatever pace suits you, and choose the shape that holds them best. Not sure? Gentle suggestions come with the questionnaire. You’ll receive your family’s private link the same week. We will also decide upon the best befitting shape for you for the piece.
2. Your family adds their words. Everyone contributes in their own time, from anywhere. The quiet ones can send a single word; one word can carry a lot. Gentle reminders are handled for you.
3. You approve every word. The curated word list comes to you before any lettering begins. Change anything, add anything, take anything away.
4. The keepsake arrives. Hand-lettered, checked with you, and delivered as agreed below.

Included with every piece
The Every Word card: each word and memory your family sent, including those that didn’t fit the artwork, lettered plainly on a keepsake card. Nothing your family says is lost.

Is this made by AI?
No. Every word is drawn by hand, by one person, the slow way. No generators, no templates, nothing automatic anywhere in the making. You can watch the lettering happen in the short film above, and every piece carries the artist’s name, as it should.
What shape will it be?
Whatever holds them best, as that’s your family’s call: a heart, a star, an initial, a silhouette, or something that was theirs alone, the caravan, the teapot, the boot. If you’re not sure, you’ll be given gentle suggestions based on what your family shares, and nothing is decided without you.
How much will I have to do?
Less than an hour, all told, and none of it on the phone. Ten minutes to tell us about them. One link to share with your family. One word list to read and approve. The gathering, the reminding, the curating and the lettering are done for you, as that part is the point.
What if my family doesn’t join in?
Families surprise you. The link asks gently, reminders are handled for you, and the quiet ones usually send more than anyone expected. If only three voices come, three voices are enough; some of the most beautiful pieces are small choirs. And nothing moves forward until you’ve seen what’s been gathered.
What if the finished piece doesn’t feel like them?
Then it isn’t finished. You approve every word before lettering begins; you see the piece before it’s sent, and anything that isn’t them gets changed. The piece is only done when you say they’re in it.
Can it arrive in time for a birthday, or for Christmas?
Pieces are lettered in strict turn, and honest timing matters more than fast promises: from word-list approval to delivery is currently 2 weeks. If a date matters, say so in the questionnaire, and you’ll have an honest answer before anything begins, as a rushed piece is not how anyone should be kept.
Who can it be made for?
Mums, dads, grandparents, sisters, husbands, best friends, and yes, the dog. Any much-missed member of the family, as families decide who counts as family. The words change; the keeping is the same.
What if I change my mind? What about refunds?
The work is made once and for your family alone, so it can’t be resold and therefore is non-refundable (I am sure you will understand that with the work involved). But my aim is that you will be 100% happy with the piece.
